Who We Help
St. Tammany Cancer Fund supports the college scholarship program for local youth diagnosed with cancer as its primary funding objective. However, we also provide funds to local hospitals and cancer-based organizations for the purchase of equipment, programs and services that benefit a broad range of cancer patients in our community.

To date, over $800,000 has been given to worthy recipients since our inception, including:

  • The American Cancer Society. Over $300,000 has been given by STCF to support the ACS college scholarship program as well as other programs for cancer patients such as Look Good Feel Good, transportation assistance, patient education and awareness programs, and more. STCF also purchased a suite at the Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge in New Orleans, which provides lodging at no charge to cancer patients and their families during the treatment process.
  • Leonard C. Thomas Foundation. This local organization has received $100,000 from STCF in recent years to assist cancer patients with quality-of-life programs such as lymphedema therapy, genetic counseling, and yoga classes.
  • Children’s Hospital. STCF has provided $50,000 during the past four years to the only facility in this area specifically designed to treat children with cancer in an inpatient setting.
  • St. Tammany Parish Hospital. Over the past several years, STCF has contributed over $35,000 for the purchase of medical equipment and programs used by cancer patients in the STPH Cancer Resource Center and chemotherapy infusion center. Heated massage chairs and a medical blanket warmer are now available to all patients undergoing treatment and this year new furnishings for the suite are being purchased with STCF funds.
  • Slidell Memorial Hospital. STCF has awarded over $40,000 to SMH for the purchase of specialized chemotherapy chairs, a medical blanket warmer, and an ice machine to be used by all cancer patients undergoing treatment. This year, STCF funds purchased furnishings for the newly named St. Tammany Cancer Fund Appearance Center in the SMH Regional Cancer Center.
  • Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center has received over $40,000 over the past three years to provide transportation assistance to patients undergoing radiation treatments at the Covington facility.

In 2011 alone, STCF has proudly distributed over $100,000 to the above organizations and to our college scholarship recipients!
